Year 3 and 4 Autumn Term This term our theme in Year 3 & 4 is ‘Travel’. Below are the themes we will study in the different subjects. Literacy: We study Welsh and English in alternating blocks of a fortnight each. The writing genres we will study this term are a Recall, Instructions, Persuasive writing, Informal Letter, a Portrait, and a Descriptive piece. The book we will be reading is ‘Siencyn y Sipsiwn’ and ‘The Hodgeheg’ by Dick King-Smith. Numeracy: This term the main aspects we will concentrate on are, temperatures, data, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, interpreting data, mass, money, telling the time, and mental arithmetic. Science: In the first half term we will study ‘Materials and their properties including recycling’ followed by ‘Forces and friction’ in the second. History: We will be studying transport during the 19th Century, the life of a child during the Victorian era and why people emigrated from Wales to Patagonia. Geography: We will be studying geographical matters that arise in the news. Religious Education: How our lives are like journeys. This will include comparing religions, christening, weddings and how to deal with the loss of a family member or friend and pets. Physical Education: During the first half term we will be developing orienteering skills and playing competitive games and then for the second half term we will be dancing and developing team building skills.   Art: The class will be looking at the work of the artist Luned Rhys Parri and will be creating their own shadow puppets.

Design Technology: In keeping with our class theme, the children will be designing and creating their own moving vehicle model. Music: We will be looking into ways we can convey a journey through use of music. PSE: New beginnings, co-operating and quarrelling and saying ‘No to bullying’.
