Year 3 and 4
Summer Term 2022
Our theme in Year 3 and 4 this term is ‘Wales and Welshness.’
Here's what we'll study in all areas:
Languages, Literacy and Communication: We will do our work
through the medium of Welsh for two weeks and then through the
medium of English. We will discuss, read and learn how to write
a Story, Fact Sheet, Book Review, Poems, Blog etc.
The books we will read will be Betsi Cadwaladr – A Victorian
Nurse and Gelert, The Faithful Dog.
Key Stage 2 pupils will complete 'Read, Write, Ink' every
morning, to improve their English spelling.
Mathematics and Numeracy: The main units we will study will be
addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, compass
work, capacity, symmetry, reflection and data work.
Science and Technology: During this term we will study Plants,
Friction and have the opportunity to make Bara Brith.
Humanities: We will study the history of Betsi Cadaladr, The
History of The Urdd, the use of the 'Welsh Knot', The Welsh Flag,
The Welsh Bible, visit a Chapel / Church and study the location
of Clocaenog and Wales within Europe and the World.
Health and Wellbeing: We will run a mile twice a week, play
rounders/orienteering on Thursdays for the first half term
followed by Athletics and folk dancing after half term, Yoga on a
daily basis and 'Circle Time' and have discussions e.g. How could
we help ourselves and others?
Expressive Art: Look at a PowerPoint presentation about
Traditional Welsh blankets. Weaving Welsh patterns using
coloured cardboard. Studying the work of Kyffin Williams –
simulating his work. Learn songs e.g. the Welsh anthem, Sosban
Fach etc. Dance –try some folk dancing.
