Years 1 and 2 A very warm welcome to the Year 1 and 2 class, to the children and the parents. The class teacher is Miss Hughes with Miss Elen Jones assisting. The Reception class children and Mrs Edmunds will be part of the classroom in the afternoons. On some days they will be joining us in the classroom and on other days they will continue with their activities in the Reception classroom. Miss Einir Jones will be teaching the class on Monday afternoons concentrating on the ‘expressive arts’ –music, art, dance and drama. P.E. lessons will be on a Friday. The children will need their P.E. clothes on a Monday and Friday. They can keep their P.E. kit at school and the kit will be sent home at the end of every half term, or earlier if we think that they need to be washed. Reading books will be changed on a Thursday and the children will need to bring their reading bags to school every day. It’s very important that you read with your child every day and we appreciate your comments in the ‘reading record’. You are welcome to read other books, from home or the library with your child as well and you can record comments on these books in the reading record. The children have chosen the theme ‘I Like Myself’ and we will be responding to the children’s questions. This will involve learning how the body works, feelings, keeping healthy and the five senses. We would like to encourage you to discuss the class activities with your child and to bring in any relevant pictures, books, artefacts and ideas for guest speakers. In the language lessons we will be concentrating on writing a personal report, instructions, persuasive writing and a poster. description, portrait, letter, lists and invitations. In the maths lessons we will be concentrating on odd and even numbers, place value, addition, subtraction and temperature. (multiplication, division, Year 2) money, and weighing, fractions We look forward to having a busy and fun time with the children, thank you for your support.
