Years 1 and 2 A very warm welcome to the Year 1 and 2 class, to the children and the parents. The class teacher is Miss Hughes and Miss Elen Jones is the classroom assistant. The Reception class will be joining us every Thursday and Friday afternoon. Miss Einir Jones will be teaching the class on a Thursday afternoon. P.E. lessons will be on a Wednesday afternoon. The children will need appropriate clothes and they can keep their P.E. kit at school. The P.E. kit will be sent home at the end of the half term so that you have an opportunity to wash the kit. Then, the kit needs to be returned to school at the start of the next halt term. Reading books will be changed on a Friday and the children will need to bring their reading bags to school every day. It’s very important that you read with your child every day. You are welcome to read extra books from the library or books that you have at home with your child. It’s very important that you read with your child every day and we appreciate your comments in the ‘reading record’. Please feel free to record any ‘extra books’ in the reading record. Our theme is ‘ Come on a Journey’ and the work will be partly based on the book ‘Dyddiadur Kabo’-Olive Dyer a Val Scurlock (Gomer ISBN 1-84323-026-7) . We will follow some of the children’s ideas and you are welcome to discuss the theme at home with your child and offer ideas. Languages, Literacy and Communiacation script, news paper article, diary, postcard , letter, report , notes, advert Mathematics and Numeracy addition, subtraction, multiplication, division Time- o’clock, half past,(Year 2- quarter to, quarter past) digital clock, days of the week, months of the year, seasons. Shapes- 2D and 3D shapes, recognise the characteristics e.g. how may sides, corners, faces, right angles Number Bonds up to 10 - e.g. 9+1, 8+2 ( Year 2 to then understand that 19+1=20, 18+2=20, 90+10=100, 80+20=100, 900+100=1000, 800+20=1000 etc Measuring Length- using a ruler to measure with c.m. and realising that a meter stick is needed to measure long distances Mass- heavy, light, balance, (Year 2, will be using grams and Kilograms) Fractions- half and quarter. Finding half and quarter of shapes and numbers. Digital Framework In our ICT work we will continue to concentrate on ensuring that the children can use the computers independently. We will be encouraging them to log in and log out of Hwb and Seesaw independently. Simple animations and using the sorting programme ‘Branch’ on Hwb. Creating a digital book. Science and Technology Research animals and their habitats. Research plants and their habitats. Learning about magnetic and non-magnetic materials. Health and Well-being Taking part in ‘Saib a Symud’ (early yoga skills) We will be ‘running a mile’ twice a week and in our P.E, lessons we will continue with some gymnastic lessons and concentrating on ball skills and simple team games. Discuss feelings- how do we feel when going on different journeys and the feeling of coming home. Do the children have a favourite and safe place at home, how does it make them feel. Discuss their likes and dislikes. Do the children have a favourite toy or object. Humanities Learning about St Dwynwen and Llanddwyn island. Learning about the natural and man made features in their local area. Comparing their local area to Botswana and Llanddwyn. Learning about St David’s Day. The Easter story and Easter traditions. Expressive Arts Following some music ideas from ‘First Experience in Music’. Listening and responding to African music. Creating art and craft for the Urdd eisteddfod.
