Nursery and Reception Summer Term 2022 We look forward to the Summer Term with Nursery and Reception. Reception only – We will continue with Tric a Chlic letters, words and books. Please remember to write any comments and sign in the Library Book Record. The children should bring their reading bags to school every day. The Nursery and Reception children will require an appropriate PE uniform this term and your child can keep the uniform in school and return it home to wash at the end of half term. Please ensure that all clothing has the child's name. They will be taught to change and dress independently and learn safety rules in lessons. In addition to lessons they will have opportunities to develop skills by using large equipment such as bikes and scooters and small equipment such as pencils and scissors. Our theme This term is 'The Farm and our Local Area'. We will learn about farming, the animals and how farming has changed over the years. In addition, we will learn about our local area, our homes and how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful area. Languages, Literacy and Communication. We will read a variety of stories during the term, with a main focus on the book 'Alun yr Arth ar y Fferm'. We will continue to use the Tric a Chlic scheme to learn letters and words with a focus on correct letter formation and developing reading, spelling and writing skills. Children will develop their language skills through role play in the classroom, and in the outside area. In addition, we will be doing a book review, a questionnaire, writing a story, and using ICT to present information. Mathematics and Numeracy. We will continue to develop mathematical skills through classroom and outdoor play activities and learn songs and rhymes relating to number. We will focus on addition and subtraction, movement, area and volume, angle and position and pattern. Health and Wellbeing. We will continue to encourage the children to be independent and learn personal care practices. We will be spending a lot of time outdoors and in the school garden, focusing on the importance of fresh air and being outdoors. We will also learn how to stay safe on the farm, around large machinery and how to cross the road carefully. Humanities Our theme is 'The Farm and Our Local Area' therefore we will learn about the job of farmers and why farmers are important to Wales and our community. In addition to this, we will look at how farming has changed over the years. We will also learn about the animals' homes and will be going for a walk around the local area to see which animals we can see. Science and Technology In Science, we will do a flower planting experiment as a class and also look at the life cycle of a chicken. We will learn how to log on to HWB independently and use HWB to create pictures, paint and make a graph. Expressive Arts Children will have the opportunity to paint with straw and use farm machinery to create marks in the outside area. We will look at Van Gogh's work and experiment with different techniques. We will also do craft work for the Eisteddfod and will be decorating the school. We look forward to having a busy and fun term with the children and thank you very much for your support.
