Nursery and Reception Summer Term 2019 A very warm welcome to the Nursery and Reception class, to the children and the parents. The class teacher is Miss Llewelyn Hughes with Mrs Edmunds assisting. Reception only - The children will receive a reading bag within the first weeks. They will have the opportunity to choose a book from school every Friday. Please remember to write any comments and sign in the Library Record Book. The children will need to bring their reading bags to school every day. Our theme this term is ‘All about me.’ We ‘will be focusing on different aspects including different characteristics about ourselves. We will become familiar with different body parts, our senses and what needs to be done to keep the body healthy. In addition we will be learning about the children’s interests, likes and dislikes. The first half term will focus on baseline assessment of Nursery and Reception children. After the half term we will be following the children’s voices and concentrate on vehicles and ways of traveling. We will be looking at different ways to travel, where it’s possible to travel and roles of different vehicles. We will do this through a number of different activities that will develop a variety of skills. We would like to encourage you to discuss the class activities with your child and to bring in any relevant pictures, books, artefacts and ideas for guest speakers. Language We will be using the scheme ‘Tric a Chlic’ to introduce letters, correct formation and reading. They will be developing language skills through role play and various activities including ICT. Personal, Social, Well-Being and Cultural Diversity We will be encouraging the children to be independent learners and learn about personal care. We will also learn class rules, how to work together, sharing and behaving appropriately. Mathematics We will be developing maths skills through play activities in the classroom and outside and learning number songs and rhymes. We will be concentrating on learning to recognise numbers and their values, simple addition and subtraction, sorting, describing and comparing temperatures, money and mass.
