Nursery and Reception Autumn Term A very warm welcome to the Nursery and Reception class, to the children and the parents. The class teacher is Mrs Evans with Miss Rowlands assisting. Mrs Edwards will be teaching music every other Wednesday afternoon and Mrs Lloyd will be teaching music every other Thursday afternoon. Reception only - The children can choose a book from the school library every Friday. Please remember to write any comments and sign in the Library Record Book. The children will need to bring their reading bags to school every day. They will each receive a new reading bag soon. Our theme this term is ‘My little world’ and we will be concentrating on themselves and the world around them. We would like to encourage you to discuss the class activities with your child and to bring in any relevant pictures, books, artefacts and ideas for guest speakers. Language We will be using the scheme ‘Tric a Chlic’ to introduce letters, correct formation and reading. They will be developing language skills through role play and various activities including ICT. Personal, Social, Well-Being and Cultural Diversity We will be encouraging the children to be independent learners and learn about personal care. We will also learn class rules, how to work together, sharing and behaving appropriately. Mathematics We will be developing maths skills through play activities in the classroom and outside and learning number songs and rhymes. We will be concentrating on learning to recognise numbers and their values, simple addition and subtraction, sorting, describing and comparing temperatures, money and mass. Knowledge and Understanding of the World Our theme is ‘My little world’ therefore we will be learning about ourselves and the world around us. We will be learning to recognise parts of the body and using our senses to explore and to recognize differences and likenesses between ourselves and others. Physical Development The reception children will have their Physical Education lesson every Tuesday afternoon this term. The children will need appropriate P.E. clothes for each lesson and they can keep their kit at school and return home for washing at half term. Please ensure that all clothes have your childs name on them. Nursery children will not need any P.E. clothes this term. They will be expected to undress and dress independently and will be learning rules for their own safety in lessons. We will also be developing skills by using large equipment such as bikes and scooters and small equipment such as pencils and scissors. Creative Development The children will be using different parts of their body to print and to paint their own portraits. We will also be making craft work involving Thanksgiving, Autumn, Bonfire night and Christmas. In music sessions we will be learning and singing many songs and rhymes with others and playing simple rhythmic patterns using different instruments and listening to different kinds of music. Religious Education We will be learning the story about Noah’s Ark and how to prepare ourselves for different types of weather. We will also be learning about celebrations such as Harvest Thanksgiving and Christmas. We look forward to having a busy and fun time with the children, Thank you for your support.
