Nursery and Reception
Happy New Year to everyone and we look forward to the Spring
Term.
Reception Only - We will be continuing with Tric a Chlic letters,
words and books. Remember to record any comments and sign in
the Library Book Record. The children should bring their reading
bags to school every day.
The Reception children will be having a PE lesson on a
Wednesday afternoon this term. The lessons will require a
suitable PE kit and your child can keep the uniform at school and
return home to wash at the end of half term. Please make sure
that the child’s name is on every piece of clothing. They will be
encouraged to dress independently and safety rules in the lessons
will be discussed. Nursery children will not need a uniform this
term.
In addition to lessons they will have opportunities to develop
skills by using large tools such as bikes and scooters and small
tools such as pencils and scissors.
Our theme this term is ‘Tren Mawr Glas’. We will read the story,
learn about how trains work and different modes of transport. In
addition to this, we will learn about the animals in the story and
how to look after living things. We will look at different ways we
can travel to take care of our world.
Languages, literacy and communication.
We will be reading a variety of different stories in class, with a
main focus being the book 'Tren Mawr Glas’ (The Big Blue Train).
We will continue to use the Tric and Chlic scheme to learn letters,
words and sentences with a focus on correct formation and
developing reading, spelling and writing skills. Children will
develop language skills through role play and a variety of
activities including TGCH. They write a postcard and look at a
newspaper article during the term.
Mathematics and Numeracy.
We will continue to develop mathematical skills through play
activities in class and outside and learn songs and rhymes
relating to number. We will focus on identifying and number
value, data/distribution, addition and subtraction, time,
estimation and verification.
Health and Well-being
We will continue to encourage children to be independent and
learn personal care practices. We will learn about different
movements through dance activities and move like the animals in
the book. We will also learn how to stay safe while travelling and
how to stay healthy.
The Humanities
Our theme is the ‘Tren Mawr Glas’ therefore we will learn about
how people travelled a long time ago and how trains have
changed over the years. We will also look at different ways to
travel to ensure we take care of our world e.g.. walking to school,
cycling to the shop etc.
Science and Technology
In Science and Technology we will be building a ramp and will
race different vehicles to see which is the fastest. We will also
experiment with cars, trains etc to see which vehicles travel well
on sand, grass and carpet. We will also build a train or train
tracks out of wood, learning how to use simple tools safely.
Expressive Arts
Children will be able to use recycled resources to create a model
of a train. We will also be doing craft work relating to Eisteddfod,
Mother's Day, St Dwynwen and Easter.
We look forward to having a busy and fun season with the
children and thank you so much for your support.
